Dog-friendly South Shields

We're lucky to groom dogs right on this stretch of the North East coast. Here are our favourite dog-friendly spots near the studio, for a walk before or after a groom.

Out and about

Great walks near the studio

Something to suit every dog, from a big coastal run to a gentle, level stroll.

Coastal walk

The Leas

A long ribbon of clifftop grassland and coastal path looked after by the National Trust. Open, breezy and brilliant for a proper leg-stretch, with sea views the whole way.

Dogs all year

Littlehaven Beach

A sandy beach right by the pier where dogs are welcome all year round. A calmer, easy option, and handy if a busier beach feels like too much for a nervous dog.

Summer rules apply

Sandhaven Beach

A big, popular sandy beach on the seafront. Worth knowing the rules... dogs aren't allowed on the main stretch between 1 May and 30 September, from 8am to 6pm. Outside those months and hours, it's all yours.

Dogs all year

Marsden Bay

Dramatic cliffs, caves and the famous Marsden Rock, with dogs welcome year round. You reach the beach by steps or the lift beside the Grotto. Keep an eye out for seals resting on the sand, and give them plenty of room.

Gentle stroll

South Marine Park

Green space with a boating lake and gentle, level paths. An easy, relaxed wander that suits puppies and older dogs who like to take their time.

Somewhere to relax after

Plenty of dog-friendly stops

South Shields is well set up for dogs. You'll find lots of dog-friendly cafes and pubs along Ocean Road and the seafront, and the Marsden Grotto sits right on the coast if you fancy a bite with a sea view. There are dog litter bins dotted along the front too, so it's easy to be a tidy visitor.

Easy to reach

Three hours free, right next door

The studio is in the heart of South Shields, with Morrisons car park right next door offering three hours free parking or £4 all day... so a groom and a walk together makes for an easy morning. You're also welcome to pull up outside on the yellow lines for quick drop-offs and pick-ups. The seafront is a short walk from the town centre, the main bus station and the Metro, if you're coming without the car.

A groom and a good walk

Bring your dog in for a groom, then head out along the coast... a fresh, happy dog and a lovely walk to follow.
